Can I put a GPS tracker on a car or a person?
Direct answer: Property you own or manage, or a minor in your care, per our FAQ and California rules. Not an adult without that person’s knowledge and lawful authorization.
You may track property you own. California Penal Code 637.7 addresses using an electronic tracking device to follow a person without required consent. That includes magnetic GPS units and Bluetooth tags used to follow someone. Typical lawful lanes we discuss on the floor: your own vehicle, or a minor child you have the right to locate. Not an adult who has not consented, and not a space or vehicle you do not control.
We will not email a model so it can be ordered for an unlawful job. Spec’ing a tracker is a consult when the use case needs a lawful-use confirm. The fee is credited if you buy the recommended ISS equipment the same day.
Not legal advice. Lawful use only.. Call (415) 775-4779 or walk in to 555 Beach Street.
