Can I sweep a hotel or Airbnb myself?

LAWFUL USE ONLY

Direct answer: A visual and kit check of a room you rented is fine. If you find a device in a bedroom or bath: photograph it, report it to the platform, and contact police. Do not pocket evidence. A team sweep is for a space you control and is booked at 555 Beach.

You can do a basic guest check of a room you have rented: look for out-of-place objects aimed at the bed or bath, use a lens finder, and use an RF wand for some live transmitters. That is not a professional TSCM sweep, and it is not permission to search spaces or property you do not control.

If you find a device in a private space, photograph it, report it to the platform, and contact police when it is in a bedroom or bathroom. Do not pocket evidence.

A team bug sweep is for a space you own or are authorized to have inspected. Appointment required. Quoted at 555 Beach Street. See Bug sweep / TSCM. For a longer travel how-to we already published, see Is Your Airbnb Safe? — the floor answer on when a team sweep is the right call is this page. Lawful use only. Not legal advice. Investigations and sweeps are performed by California-licensed investigators from our network.
