Handheld White Noise Generator
Handheld battery-powered white-noise generator that masks speech over about 150 sq ft to reduce microphone-based eavesdropping in rooms and meetings.
Description
The Handheld White Noise Generator masks speech across about 150 sq ft, which helps keep conversations in a small office or meeting room from being captured clearly by nearby microphones. It is handheld and battery powered, so you can use it anywhere.
It produces a random hiss that varies in frequency and loudness, which is difficult to filter out of a recording.
How it works
Microphones capture all sound in range. When the white noise is louder than the conversation, the voices are hard to separate from the hiss on a recording. Talk at a level below the generator to get the most protection.
Set the unit in the center of the conversation area with the speaker facing up, switch it on and raise the volume. Larger rooms need more volume; for spaces bigger than about 150 sq ft, add another unit for each extra 150 sq ft. Keep phones, lamps and other objects out from between the people talking.
